Introduction to Research Paper

Puerto Rico has been one of the most competitive and dynamic economies in Latin America. Until recently, their economy heavily relies on United States government aid. With their GDP per capita expectancy running at 28,000 USD by the end of this quarter and the poverty line being higher than the national average in the U.S at 14%. It can be safe to say that this impact on their commonwealth status has taken a toll on their economic growth. Puerto Rico’s gross national income is considered when calculating U.S growth, however, the United States officials have not found a valid responsibility or confirmed plan of action to improve our fellow U.S territory. Many factors go into how this is affecting the island but have the officials yet considered whether a prescribed plan can help our nation?

Puerto Rico's Economy is something I researched because it was something I was curious about considering the island is a commonwealth to the United States.Going forward I plan on elaborating more statistics in comparing Puerto Rico's economy versus the United States. One of the things I found difficult was differentiating between their government and their economy and how they cross in order to make the islands economy run effectively. Some interesting things included in this research go into federal programming and how it is different from the states in contrast to Puerto Rico. This can  affect its economy as its own governed nation. There are many ways Puerto Rico has tried to change their economy however there are acts created in U.S congress being that it is still a common wealth that has hindered its growth.

Today I relapsed on experiencing two stories that consist of possession within human encounters by the name of "Little Cog-burt" by Phyllis Allfrey and "Cotton Candy" by Dora Alonso. Both stories contain two young protagonists, one being Cog-Burt and the other being Lola. In the stories, I believe both authors wanted the audience to feel for a nurturing sense within these protagonists. When reading you get the urge to want to help with the situation these characters go through as well as seeing the main characters gain what they truly long for. In "Cotton Candy" Lola is faced with a corrupt society in Cuba that destines her future as a sewer making fabric for a local prostitute yet gains more and more interest in things that have no significance from her homeland economically such as butterflies and "lions and tigers that make ligers"(14-15). However, with time we find her migrating to a San Diego zoo that allows her to see these beautiful animal

Tetiyette and the Devil

A story read in the Green Cane and Juicy Flotsam being  Tetiyette and the Devil. The story is surrounded by a young girl by the name of "Tetiyette" she is encountered by many men one being a Pig who envision to be large and unkempt  she quickly turns down the offer to speak with him as she did the same with the goat, who I envision to be tall and old. It seems to me that the young girl is unsatisfied with the common approaches she is getting possibly the use of animal names is a form of figurative language to show their physical appearance not meeting the standards of the young girl, this can also reveal that her mindset is not fully developed to where she can pick a long term partner wisely.Ultimately in the story she encounters the Devil dressed finely in disguise and as described "decked himself in gold"(2).With this description you can assume the Devil presenting himself in a way he knows the young immature girl will allow him into her life. This encounter at

About Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is a northeastern Caribbean island that is considered  U.S territory although they run their own government independently. It's capital being San Juan home of their beautiful waterfalls, and mountain regions. The land in its entirety runs 100 miles long and 35 miles wide being the smallest island in the Greater Antilles. It was up until November 19th of 1493 where Christopher Columbus went on his second voyage with Spain and colonized the land now known as Puerto Rico meaning "Rich Port" in Spanish.
